Bronx BP Blasts Trump Over Puerto Rico Aide

Trump Says He’s The ‘Best Thing That Ever Happened’ To Puerto Rico

By Dan Gesslein

POLITICS- President Trump may think he is the Best Thing That Ever Happened’ To Puerto Rico, but the Bronx Borough President would disagree.

Trump’s tweets appear to have angered Democrats including those in the Bronx.

Trump tweeted: “Puerto Rico got 91 Billion Dollars for the hurricane, more money than has ever been gotten for a hurricane before, & all their local politicians do is complain & ask for more money. The pols are grossly incompetent, spend the money foolishly or corruptly, & only take from USA….

“The best thing that ever happened to Puerto Rico is President Donald J. Trump. So many wonderful people, but with such bad Island leadership and with so much money wasted. Cannot continue to hurt our Farmers and States with these massive payments, and so little appreciation!”

Ruben Diaz, Jr. represents the Bronx, the largest population of people of Puerto Rican decent outside the island. The Bronx Borough President attacked Trump on his comments on aide following Hurricane Maria.

“Yet again, President Donald Trump and his ignorant administration is trying to find ways to weasel out of helping the millions of United States citizens that call Puerto Rico home. Much like he bails out on his bankrupt businesses, President Trump is looking to bail out on Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is not one his failed casinos. He is gambling with American lives, and hanging them out to dry.

“President Trump’s responses to Hurricane Maria has been abysmal. This administration has dragged its feet to provide aid since the day the hurricane decimated Puerto Rico. His response has been nothing short of a disgrace.

“Nothing exemplifies the president’s indifference towards the island like the day he was tossing paper towels into a crowd of people who needed genuine help, like a natural disaster is some sort sick game to him. His treatment of Puerto Rico and its people has been revolting,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
