Sepulveda Sweeps Vote in Special Election for State Senate Seat in 32nd District
BRONX– Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda coasted to an overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s special election for the state Senate seat in the 32nd District.
“I want to thank the voters of the 32ndDistrict for putting your trust in me, and everyone who worked on my behalf to bring this victory about,” said Sepulveda. “Now the work begins.”
The new Senator had the backing of both Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio and the Bronx political establishment, as well as dozens of unions and other organizations.
The three-term Assemblyman drew more than 2,000 votes, while two minor challengers drew less than 300 votes, according to preliminary returns.
The 32nd Senate District takes in a large swath of the South Bronx, including Mott Haven, Melrose and Hunts Point, as well as his current 87th Assembly District covering Parkchester, Castle Hill, Soundview and West Farms.
In a victory speech Tuesday night, Sepulveda pledged to work for “justice for our children so that they can get the best education any child could have.
“Justice for our youth, so that rather than spending billions on our prisons, we spend it on their college education, so that they can all dream of becoming Governor, President, doctors, engineers and lawyers,” as well as justice for the elderly, the indigent, minority communities, workers and the LGBT communities.
Mayor de Blasio joined a host of Bronx electeds on stage Tuesday evening at Maestro’s catering hall to congratulate and praise Sepulveda for his dedication, drive and efforts on behalf of his constituents and his work in Albany on behalf of the city.
