Rikers Island Inmate Charged with Choking Prisoner to Death

NEW YORK– A Rikers Island inmate affiliated with the same gang who killed Junior has been charged with choking a fellow inmate to death inside the prison. 



Police announced that 27-year-old Artemio Rosa has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 35-year-old man. 


Investigators have not released the name of the victim.  



Cops say on July 9, Rosa walked up behind the victim who was sitting in a chair inside the Anna M. Kross Center on Rikers Island. He then began choking the man as prison guards tried to break it up. 


Once free the victim was give an inhaler to try to breathe but he then collapsed and later died. 


The Anna M. Kross Center is a facility on Rikers for those believed to be mentally ill. 



The victim is believed to be homeless. No word on what spurred the fatal encounter.


Rosa is believed to be affiliated with the Trinitarios street gang. The same gang accused of viciously stabbing Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz to death with a machete in a fatal case of mistaken identity. 


However, investigators do not believe the murder is gang related.
