This year, on Sunday, October 20, 2019, the AMSU family will once again be walking as a team: Academy of Mount St. Ursula at Orchard Beach at the MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER Walk, with an on-going fund campaign for the American Cancer Society.
AMSU has done this project for the past several years under the leadership of Mr. Leo Soliman, the Chairperson of our Religious Studies Department as one the school’s many SERVIAM activities—for a very worthy cause. He does this also for his wife Carmen, the Director of Nursing at the Jacobi Medical Center. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2010 and underwent double mastectomy and chemotherapy. By the grace of God, this is her 9th year post-surgery and she seems to be in remission.
Our students and their families have responded very warmly to this Serviam activity and have always walked behind the proud banner of the Academy of Mount St. Ursula.
It is, indeed, the school’s partnership with the American Cancer Society and every year, the school raises funds from alumnae and friends as well as from in-school fund raisers.
In 2018, the school donated close to $1,000.00 to the American Cancer Society and for Cancer Prevention work and research.
As we walk in this year’s event again, we proudly say: MARCH ON, GIRLS OF MOUNT ST. URSULA!
