NEW YORK– Who killed an elderly jackpot winner? That’s what police are trying to find out following the stabbing death of a 73-year-old Bronx man.
Owen Dillard, 73, was stabbed to death yesterday inside his Mott Haven apartment a block away from St. Mary’s Park.
According to publised reports, Beekman had won $10,000 in the lottery. It is unknown if his murder is related to him winning the jackpot or if anyone knew of his winfall.
Cops said, Dillard was found at around 8:37 pm on July 11 inside his apartment at 352 Beekman Avenue. Police responded to a call from FDNY of an unconscious male at the location. When they arrived they found Beekman bleeding and unresponsive.
Investigators said the victim was stabbed several times in the neck.
Published reports claim that Beekman’s 60-year-old fiance found him bleeding and unresponsive when she returned home. She called 911 but it was apparently too late.
Cops questioned the woman but no arrests have so far been made.
