Tito Puente Concert Rescheduled

Downpour Cancels Tito Puente, Jr., Concert at Summer Block Party in Bronx

A powerful rainstorm swept through the area, cancelling a performance by Tito Puente, Jr., and sending fans scurrying for cover.

Several thousand Bronxites turned out for Affinity Health Plan’s “Summer Block Party,” held along Valentine Avenue, between East 192 Street and East Fordham Road in the Kingsbride section of the borough.

During the scheduled daylong event, held on Saturday, June 29, children enjoyed free give-a-ways, a bouncy house and face-painting as their parents were given health and nutrition information.

Most everyone got to enjoy a live performance by El Gringo de La Bachata and DJ Ralphie Mercado of La Mega 97.9 spun records for the crowd. Many were anticipating the performance by Puente however, mother nature had other plans.

After the cancellation, Puente told his fans through social media, “My apologies to all my fans that came out to the Summer Block Party on Saturday and did not get to see or hear me perform with the band.”

Puente invited fans to come out to a free show he’s doing in Brooklyn on Sunday, July 21.


The 48-year-old band leader performs his own brand of Dance-Electronic with a Latin flavor, and is carrying on his father’s legacy by performing many of the Mambo-king’s biggest hits from the father’s 50 year career. 

Tito Puente died in 2000.
