Teacher at Special Needs Campus Accused of Rape
BRONX- A Bronx teacher accused of raping a student allegedly wanted to take a swan dive off a highway overpass, published reports say.
The NYPD arrested 28-year-old Jonathan Pol and charged him with rape. Police arrested Pol after a bizarre incident on a highway overpass outside Co-op City.
According to published reports, Pol was found standing on a highway divider on the southbound lane of I-95 near the Connor Street exit. The NYPD says he was threatening to jump off. After Pol was taken into custody, police were informed of the rape accusations.
Pol is accused of driving a 13-year-old student to the corner of Randall and Clarence Avenues across from DA Beach Club in Throggs Neck. Inside his car is where the teacher is accused of raping the student on at least two occasions.
Pol worked as a teacher for Mott Hall Community School which sits inside the former IS 192 campus. The site is now home to several schools for special needs including students with autism.
Officials say Pol is on suicide watch in Jacobi Medical Center.
