A crowd of straphangers watched in horror as a distraught man jumped in front of a moving subway train on Monday morning– while clutching his 5 year-old daughter.

Officials say that at just before 8 a.m. on September 23, the still unidentified 45-year-old man jumped in front of a southbound 4-Train at the Kingsbridge Road Station.

A dramatic video from the scene shows several commuters jump to the tracks to assist in getting the young girl out from under the first subway car the rolled over her and her father. You can hear one woman say, “Oh my God,” as the child slowly crawls out from under the train.

The man was declared dead at the scene and the child, who was bleeding from the head, was taken to Jacobi Hospital for treatment. Police continue to investigate the incident.

One unconfirmed report stated that the man was engaged in a dispute over his cellphone, moments before the incident.

The FDNY reported two additional civilians were transported by EMS with minor injuries, believed to be two of the Bronxites who jumped to the tracks in an effort to assist the young girl.
