The city opened 500 cooling centers across the city. Con Ed reported 22,000 customers lost power July 21, including 4,300 customers in Eastchester and all customers were expected to have restored service on Monday.

The heat prompted one New England police department to ask criminals to hold off a day before committing any crimes.
