Bronx Man Charged with Murdering Girlfriend and her Daughter

As families along a quiet tree-lined block in Belmont prepared for Father’s Day celebrations the following day, police were called to one home where they made a grim discovery: the bodies of a 34 -year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter. The woman’s boyfriend was found nearby, with a gunshot wound to his head.
The boyfriend remains under arrest for weapons possession at St. Barnabas Hospital. Officials say additional charges could be brought, if he survives.
Police were called to conduct a “wellness check” on the top floor of a three-family private home at 2153 Belmont Avenue, at 1:32 p.m., on Saturday, June 15. Officials would only say, “EMS responded and pronounced the 10 year-old and 34 year-old females deceased on the scene.” Adding, “the medical examiner will determine the cause of death,” but strangulation was pointed as a likely cause.
Officials later identified the victims as Linda Manigault, 34, and her daughter Heaven Ross, 10. The boyfriend, identified by multiple news outlets as Ezort Stevens, 32, a taxi driver, remained in critical condition the following day, with what was described as a self-inflicted gun shot to the head.
Police charged Stevens with weapons possession on Sunday and are still investigating the incident as a murder / suicide attempt, with hopes to gather enough evidence to bring murder charges against him, if he survives.
Residents stated that the family had lived on the block for less than a year, and kept to themselves. They added that Manigault was often seen taking her children to school or church.
Manigault leaves behind three children, a 13 year-old son and two daughters ages 15 and 17, who made the grisly discovery at the home.
